According to the mythological belief, Lord Shiva was sitting with Nandi and his Ganas along with Mata Parvati in Mount Kailash. On this occasion, Maa Parvati asked Lord Shiva, "O Maheswara, what virtue I had done, due to which you found me as a husband. You're an insider, so you must tell me. Hearing this, Shankara says, "O Goddess, you had collected the most excellent virtue, from which you had received me. You are in the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadon month.

He said, "Lord Shiva! On the banks of the Ganges on the Himalayas, you had done severe penance for twelve years in your childhood. You spent so much time chewing dry leaves of trees without eating food. In the bitter cold of Magha, you continually entered the water and did penance. In the scorching heat of Vaisakh you warmed the body with Panchagni.

During the torrential rains of Shravan, he spent time under the open sky without taking food and water. Your father used to be very sad to see your suffering penance. Then one day, seeing your penance, Naradji came to your house. Your father was hospitable in his heart and asked the reason for his coming. Narada said, "Hanuman! I have come here on the invitation of Lord Vishnu. Your daughter has worked very hard. Pleased with this, they want to marry your daughter. I would like to know your opinion in this regard.

With your father's approval, Naradji went to Vishnu and told him the news of your marriage. But when the matter of this marriage came to your ears, there was no place for your sorrow. One of your friends understood this state of mind and wanted to know from you the reason for that perplexity. Then you said - I have described Lord Shiva with a true heart, but my father fixed my marriage with Vishnu. I am in a strange dilemma. What to do now? There is no other option left but to die. Your friend was very understanding and understanding.

He said: "Bro! What is the reason for death? You need to be patient in times of crisis. The meaning of a woman's life is to live from what she has once accepted from her heart as a husband. One has to surrender even to God in the face of true faith and integrity. I take you to a dense forest, which is also a place of meditation and where your father cannot find you. There you will be immersed in meditation. I am sure God will help you.

You've done that. Your father was very sad and worried when he did not find you at home. They wondered where you were going. I have vowed to marry her to Vishnuji. If Lord Vishnu comes with a baraat and the girl is not at home, it will be a big insult. I won't be able to show my face anywhere. Thinking all this Giriraj started searching for you vigorously.

Here you were sought after, and there you were with your friend in a cave on the bank of a river, in adoration of Me. Bhadrapada was the Hasta Nakshatra on the third day of Shukla Paksha. On that day you fasted by building a Shivling of sand. I stayed up all night singing my praises. My seat began to shake with the effect of your suffering penance. My body was broken. I immediately went before you and, pleased with your penance, asked you to ask for a boon.

Then as a result of your penance, you found me in front of you and said - I have described you as a husband from my heart. If you are really pleased with my penance that you have come here, then accept me as your Ardhangini. Then I returned to Mount Kailash saying 'Tathastu'. As soon as the morning came, you performed the fast with your friend by pouring all the materials of worship into the river. At the same time, Giriraj, along with his friends and courtiers, came looking for you and asked the reason and purpose of your painful penance. Giriraj was very sad to see your condition at that time and tears had welled up in his eyes due to the pain.

You wiped his tears and said in a humble voice - Father! I have spent most of my life in austere penance. The purpose of my penance was only that I wanted to have Mahadev as my husband. Today I have stood the test of my austerity. Since you had decided to marry me to Vishnuji, I left home in search of my idol. Now I will go home with you on the condition that you will marry me to Mahadevji instead of Vishnuji. Giriraj agreed and took you home. After some time, according to the scriptural law, they tied us in marriage. O Parvati! As a result of the fast which you had observed by worshipping Me on the third day of Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya, I could marry you. Its importance is that I give the desired fruit to the virgins who perform this fast. Therefore, every girl who wishes for good luck should do this fast with full integrity and faith.
